    Default Conv. Top

I need help on the covert. top Not going up anymore. It's a 1973 Centurion and I faithfully keep the linkage lubed and use the top so it would not stop working. Never dealt with a roof before and I do not know if it's something simple or what. When I go to the switch at the dash to activate it the top will start to raise from where it's in the down position behind the seat. It will begin to lift slightly then stop. It does not make it out from behind the seat. If I flick the switch to put top down it'll go down. I'll retry again and it's the same.....will lift partially then stop. I've even helped assist lifting it but it will not go any further than from where it stops. You can hear the relay/motor like it wants to go but it does not.
I removed the back seat and have access to the motor which has what looks like a speedo cable hooked to it. Like I said, I do not know much on convert. tops.
Can anyone assist as to what direction to start/check etc. please?
    thnx

I was expecting more of an answer as, "yeh, these tops are known for doing this; you need to check A B C and D; if that doesn't work etc..." all of which I can check myself. I just do not know convert tops. I guess I figured Others have had the same issue/s perhaps? Where else to go, but on a Buick forum.
I'm on a budget and trying to avoid bringing the car to a shop for this as my first option. I respectfully appreciate your reply and will look around my area for specialists, have them look at it and go from there to see what I can work out.
Yes, I will post after the issue has been taken care of.
    thnx. Rolf!

    ... ... Have a look to this first check-list: http://site.convertibleparts.com/scissor.htm
On the right part of that page you can see an info about the "GM Full Size Convertible Top Repair Manual, 1971-1976 GM Full Size".
I guess you should order that manual if you want get things done on your top by yourself.

    Good luck again !
