Well I'm a purist, I would stick to the original color.
But it is your car so you should do what you like.

I would be happy with any color offered the year of manufacture.

Iīm with Adam, but I only would change to another color than the original if I could paint all parts that are to be seen afterwards (all inner parts, doors pillars, trunk inside, under the hood etc.). And the most important thing is that the new color has to have a nice combination and a good contrast with the interior and with the cars top !! Often people fail in this - my opinion -. So, whatever you are thinking about to do ask some good friends first before realising and perhaps ask some home interior designers too - my experience is that they normally have a good feeling for color combinations.
Keep us posted, Iīm curious what combination you will decide to.

The interior is black. I really want to go with a medium silver. I think the contrast will be much better than the burgandy-black interior it has now. the cost for changing the color and painting all the interior parts, under the hood and in the trunk will be an extra $1,500. At that point why not go with something I really want:confused4:
At the end of the day I want to know if changing the color would kill any value I'm putting in the car?
Thanks for all your advice. :beers:

I think itīs ok as long as you stuck with a available color of that year.
Maybe that helps: I donīt think that you want to have your car judged but my dad has a 67 Corvette 427 (435hp) with some nice options. The car was painted by one of the prev. owners in a strange metallic green/purple/blue anything.
Now we are going to restore the car to orig. spec.
The tag says that the car once was sunflower yellow. But my dad wants it tuxedo black.
He talked to someone from bloomington. This guy said, that itīs no problem as long as itīs a 67 color. If it the cars orig. color you get all points, if itīs a 67 color he gets nearly no points off. Any non-available color will take much more.

I changed my car from Colonial Gold to Cadillac Black Cherry. I thought long and hard about painting it with the Burgundy correct for 1973, but the color just wasn't quite what I wanted.
My opinion is: It's your hobby, you didn't buy the car for practical reasons, you bought it to enjoy it. Whatever would increase that enjoyment is what you should do. If you enjoy having the car judged then do what will get you the most points. If you most enjoy the prospect of increased resale value then that points toward leaving the original color. If you just love owning and driving the car then paint it whatever color would make you stop in your tracks and say "wow, that's gorgeous".
I fall in the last category. I changed the color and I'd lose points in a resotration judging, it's affect of resale value depends on my ability to find a buyer who doesn't mind the color change. I don't enter competitions and I'll never sell the car so those don't matter to me. I smile every time I see or drive the car. It looks gorgeous to me.
Good luck and post some before and after pictures.

1973 had a really nice shade of silver.
It was sort of a smokey silver gray.
Not a blind you in the eye silver.
Sorry I can't think of the correct name at this moment.
That would look great with a black interior.
There were two silvers. N64 Silver Cloud and R67 Midnight Gray. The silver cloud should be close to platinum mist from earlier years.

Thank you all for your advice!. After ALOT of discussion I found a color between the burgandy and a deep red that really looks good in my mind. It is a color that looks the "style" without looking out of place. I wanted to go silver....because all my cars are silver! I want my 73 to be something different with a different feel. The deep red is going to do it. I will take picture before, during, and after. Stay tuned!!!!
Thanks for the feedback:beers:
