here is a current picture of my engine, im looking for tips or tricks to freshing it up and making it look better.....any ideas?

also could anyone tell me what this piece is that circled? it is disconnected but the car runs fine any ideas? thanks in advance

That is a vacuum control tree that controls vacuum advance to the distributor based on engine temp.
As far as detailing the engine compartment, there are a few ways to get it done.
I would start by degreasing and power washing the entire thing.

I would start first seeing how close you live to Adam. Then I would drive out there for an overnight and buy him dinner take him to a ....one of those bars where you have dancers and you need a lot of singles:rolleyes: Then let Adam detail your engine compartment. The man works wonders on cars you won't even reconize it after he gets thru with it! I would do so myself but I'm to far away from him.

Yes, wash it with a high pressure water 'thing' but keep away from the electronics and carburator. A little bit of oil makes the plastic pieces look alot better. Spray some WD40 on it and clean everything with old blanket pieces.
