Brake Service Time!

I dug up some of the projects I had done to the convertible in the last couple years, and thought I would share them on this site. Some of you probably remember seeing these before, so you'll just have to suffer through it again:p

This job was done in the Winter of 2004 around the same time I did some other things with the car. I started out by swapping out the steel wheels with the chrome rallyes, and "while I'm at it," I figured I should just slap another set of pads on....so started the month-long project.

Soooo, if I was going to replace the pads, why not get new rotors, since they're only $25 a piece? Maybe clean some of the gunk out from the grease fittings..:rolleyes:

I cleaned up everything the best I could and painted the shields while I had them off.

I also did the rear shoes. Those were simple, and I didn't really do anything else back there, since nothing needed work.

what kind of color did you use?
Chassis-black, POR 15 ???

I used Duplicolor DE 1635 Ford Semigloss black in a spray can.

In a while my car will be equipped with:

new master cilinder
new brake lines
new T-piece on the rear axle for the brake lines
brake cilinders on the back
revision set for the brake cilinders on the front

maybe my brake problems will be over then... now the brake light in the dash burns and I found a small brakeoil leak on the back left wheel when I moved the car... hopefully I can drive it safely to the garage where I work...

A quick shot of clear coat on the lines will slow the rust. It's almost impossible to do it in the car, but if you're replacing them you can do it just after the final bends.

I will make them with a friend of mine which is a mechanic. We will make them of copper :beers:

is copper strong enough for brake-lines?
why not stainless steel?
should not cost much more but has a much higher strengh...

Copper is ok for brake lines, they make them all the time with that. Stainless is better but bending it is hard and the sets for making the lines are for copper lines.

Interesting. In Austria it´s not allowed to use copper lines since 10 years.
If you have copper lines in your car you won´t pass the technical inspection which comes every year. You have to replace all copper lines, also if they are ok.
On my 57 Bel Air (Frame off resto) I only use stainless lines.

What size are the brake lines? I too have a leak in my left rear, and hope I can just put a piece in rather than change the whole line.
