Radiator replaced in 2007

I recently replaced the original hub caps with factory correct Buick Ralley/road wheels. I located these wheels in Arizona. They are solid, and rust-free.

The car is complimented everywhere I take it. It drives better than any other car I have ever owned from this time period. There are no leaks. There are no 'funny noises' or rattles. The body is straight and solid.

The entire top-half of the engine was removed, all rubber hoses and gaskets replaced, and metal repainted. Factory stickers have also been replaced. The heads were removed a couple of years ago, and rebuilt with new parts. Only the short block was left inside the engine compartment when it was detailed. Everything was removed, cleaned, and painted. Car runs like a top. All clamps are the correct factory style tower clamps.

The rear bumper and taillight assemblies were removed, cleaned, painted, and re-installed. Rear bumper is a re-chrome. New trunk rubber. New hood insulation. The car was undercoated some time ago.

Tires are in great shape. A recent 600 mile trip got me 18 miles per gallon! There are some new SUV's today that do worse than that! The car was absolutley fantastic driving. She flawlessly performed between 65-80mph on the highway with no shakes/ or shimmy. Steering wheel steady as a rock. Like sitting on a couch driving on glass. I would trust this car to drive across the country with no problem.

Many NOS parts have been installed on this car - front bumper, headlight bezels, grille emblem, lower grille inserts, front & rear bumper guards

The steering wheel has a typical crack on the top & bottom. Its very very hard to find one without cracks. The center woodgrain on the passenger side has a small scratch on the right side. The left dash bezel has some very light blemishing on the center of the chrome bar. The top half of the dash is perfect! No typical speaker cracks or stains. There is one nickle-sized rust hole in the rear of the trunk pan. That is IT! No other rust. The whole trunk has been treated & coated with a rust-preventive paint. The cars doglegs are solid, but they were repaired before the last repaint (unknown when repainted). There are some blemishes in the paint in certain spots. I could not pick them up on the camera for viewing. I believe these are minor scratch repairs. You cant notice it unless you are looking closely.

Original manual, some receipts, and some old original photos come with the car. The original build sheet also comes with the car. Car was originally assembled in Wilmington, Delaware and shipped to Smith Auto Sales Co. in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Hey, what a nice car, John Rocklein !

Sometimes I`m surprised finding myself thinking about buying a 2. Centurion - a 4-door. If I would live in the US I would have done it long time ago, I´m sure. Those giant cars, especially these early 1970´s Buicks are beauties on the road !

Wish that this car will find a new good home without bumper-strippers [ ;) ] !

Sorry to see it didn't sell, John.

At least I know it's still in good hands!

John, do you still want to sell your car ? If the answer would be "yes", you should try to connect with Max Barbour, http://vintagedreamcars.com/WHO_WE_ARE.html . He often sells vintage cars to Europe and he gets good prices so that especially in Germany there are several people watching his Ebay auctions.
Guess your car would bring 10000 US$, may be a bit more if sold with his help ! On the other hand he also wants to earn money of course and perhaps you have to sell your car to him much cheaper because there always is a risk to get such high prices.
But you could start your own Ebay auction at Ebay Germany. You only have to give all your information in German language. I would help you to translate if you would try this way. But you are unknown as a car seller in Germany, so the risk is higher and the price will be lower than selling the car with the vintage-dreamcars background.
I would first contact Max and discuss the possibilities :
http://vintagedreamcars.com/Contact_us.html

Good luck, John, and keep us posted.

Added:
BTW, the black Centurion was sold a year ago to Berlin and the red LeSabre was sold in summer of 2006 - to Germany or Denmark (I don´t remember exactly).

Thanks 'The German' for your helpful advice.
You are correct in assuming that I will get more $$$ for my car by sending it overseas. The 71 LeSabre is currently up for bid on Ebay Germany.
I seeked help from Brian Barbour (Max Barbours brother) I drove the car to him, and he took alot of photos. He also added 22" rims to attract potential buyers from Germany. Barbour is helpful, and EZ to work with. I recommend anyone looking to get more $$$ for their big American car to see him!! I'll keep everyone posted on the results.

He (Brian B.) really posted excellent photos within the offer on Ebay Germany, John. I´m sure you will get great attention here to your car and in some other states around Germany. Most cars "vintage dreamcars" sold to Germany but second buyers state is Denmark.

For those who want to follow the bidding :

Perfect car but I have to say, those wheels are really overdone on this car...

Also my thoughts, Michel, but it seems to sell better sometimes with such rims. The market is always right - or one have to pay for ... .

the rims were NOT my idea...believe me, I was not to happy about attaching them on the car....but apparently these guys know what they are doing, and its a big attraction for the German market. The rims were only put on for the photos. The car was returned to me as it is now with my rally rims. The rims sell for an additional cost to the buyer.

John I think your LeSabre is just fantastic and I hope you are able to get the dollar amount you want for it.
But those Wheels! Unfortunately it's what the kids want today.
Personally I cringe when I see early '70s GM convertibles (and other models) pimped out like that.
That look doesn't do a thing for me.
But a set of Buick chrome wheels or a set of Kelsey Hayes style wire wheels? That makes me smile! :)

The German

Richard, here you can see that "vintagedreamcars" always show the cars with those wheels :
http://www.vintagedreamcars.com/US_CARS_4_SALE.html

But every time the buyer had the choise to buy them or to get installed the original wheels. For me not always the originals were the nicer ones, but mostly they are. Only some cars are looking really a lot nicer (to me) with these sporty wheels than with the originals.
BTW : In Germany you could have problems to get the historic licence plate if the car has other wheels than the originals. So people install them after the car´s inspection and mostly the police tolerate them.

Just now there is a Centurion '72 for sale in Germany with such ugly rims :

http://www.autoscout24.de/Details.aspx?id=lnqefmn2ehai

... and guess it´s much too high priced (18 K€ or ca. 27.7kUS$) :Dou: !

The German
06-17-2008, 01:44 PM
John R., guess you made a very good deal; 14450 US$ (9450€ x 1,53 US$/€) is much more than I thought you would get for your car - congratulations ! :xyxthumbs:
Did you expect to get such a price ?

The hobby with old American cars still seems to be really strong here - in spite of the high gas price.

BTW: Now one more of the former cars of Adam went to good old Europe; hope there are enough left for you all over there ;) .

UNBELIEVEABLE!
I Never expected this amount!
I personally advise and recommend anyone who is thinking of selling your classic Buick to consider selling to Europe.
If anyone is interested in purchasing my Rallye Rims (pics above), I will be selling them as well.
I need a cold one! :beers:

John, congratulations!

I have an interest in the set of Buick chrome-plated road wheels. Will you send me a private message or e-mail me at brianL@americanconstco.com ?

Perhaps this is a question for Adam, but have the center / web areas of the road wheels been re-painted? This would be a plus for me.

John installed the chrome wheels. I left the stock hubcaps on it when I sold it to him.

Unreal - $14k!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as the "$" is worthless there will be a small flood of cars going to Europe. I have a neighbor here that has sent over 100 cars to Sweden alone... Specializing in muscle cars. The shipping places down in the harbor are filled with old iron being stuffed into containers. No wonder it's getting hard to find decent cars for decent money :confused4:

It's tempting sending stuff over, but maybe not old cars, since there's such a hassle with them.
