I know that this is knid of in the wrong order to do things, but I thought I'd ask here: I sold this trunk release on ebay to a guy in Sweden, and he has a 73. I just want to make sure it fits before I send it over there, does it look similar to anyone's 73 trunk release?

It looks the same that is on my '73. I will check for sure on Saturday and post back.

Cool, I just don't want to have something go across the Atlantic and then not work out.

Hey Kimson -that's the same you sold me for my 72, but it's not the same for a 73. According to Adam it will fit though. It's not "stock" but it will fit a 73. There was a post on here just a couple of weeks ago about this. I am running late and can't search for it right now, but it's on this forum. Adam chimned in with his expertise and stated this will work on a 73.
Go find it and you'll have your answer.... Good luck!
:beers:

I went and found it. It's in the parts for sale section and you (Kimson) even posted on there for someone to buy your part. However, Adam was relating to a 71, not a 73....

"Joern, the trunk release in the auction is incorrect for 71, but will work just as well. The 71 model had a different mechanism."

Kimson

Sorry for the delay.
My trunk release seems slightly different then the one shown on the e-bay photo shown below. The metal fork on the right of the release is not on mine and there is no lower right bolt hole. I pasted both, mine is the top shot. I would venture to say it won't fit a '73

hey rick, do you have any info on the actual horsepower rating on the modified hi-perf engine option on the 73, adam stated that the prefix in the vin merely meant high performance 455, not stage 1.that it was not a true stage but a variant between the 2,all i can tell ya is that the power that this car has is unreal!my standard 72 is clearly much less powerful then the 73.much less! who would have thought that of a 73 anything!i myself would have laughed if anyone else stated this and i didnt own this car. i love this car!!!!phil

Rick, those look exactly the same.

All 3 years had the same trunk lid configuration, so.....they all should be interchangeable.

OK I think I got it. For those who have it, check the Fisher Body Service Manual section 7-6. There is a photo and drawing of the power trunk lock soleniod. It states under drawing of the solenoid that is EXACTLY like the one Kimson has in the e-bay photo. Under it is states, I quote, "Electric Lid Release Solenoid - All Styles". Under the photo it states, "typical Rear Compartment Lid Lock lock and Solenoid".

So after seeing this I would say even though both are different looking (slightly), they both would fit and are proper for the 1973 model.

Phil,

That engine has the larger valves in the heads which are the Stage 1 valves. The difference between a Stage 1 'A' Body Gran Sport and the HO Centurion & Riviera Stage 1 engine is the cam and the carb. The cam which I think I posted somewhere on this site is different to compensate for the large cars. The hp and torque comes in at a slightly different rpm. As far as what you call it? Well in the 1973 Buick Chassis book its listed as a Stage 1, yet you don't always find that same listing. Overall though the Stage 1 engine /HO what ever;) still gives you more HP then the standard 455 engine. I would venture to guess it is a rare option, as many buyers would not have asked for it.

As far as the actual hp ratings I have seen it listed as 370 hp. Now we all know back in those days the ratings were first fudged higher and then fudged lower in the early 70's because of the auto insurance industry would have higher rates for the higher hp cars.

The W code (hi perf) Riv GS and Centurions did not have a Stage1 fuel pump, either.

You know Adam, with all the talk about how to find out the difference between the two, I think your the first over all the years that actually pointed that out. I never knew that, I just assumed it was the larger fuel pump. I would even venture to say that most people didn't know that either.
