I can't find anybody that sells the "Throttle Holding Solenoid". It's mounted on the right side ( when looking from the front) and one wire connect's to it. Any ideas where i can buy that? My other Centurion doesn't have A/C so i can't take it off.
BTW does anybody have electrical wiring diagrams for a 1973? Also a vacuum diagram would help.

It is called an "Idle Stop Solenoid" and they can be found pretty readily. Do you have the bracket that is supposed to hold it there?

Adam is the idle stop not supposed to cut off gas when turning the engine off? The one that i need pushes where the trottle cable goes around and is found in A/C equipped cars and pushes it so it won't die when a/c is on. I might be wrong since i last time worked with carbs 14 years ago and that on VWs......... I will try to take a closeup picture tomorrow.

That's right.
The only other possiblility is a dashpot, which slows down the deceleration rate when you take your foot off the throttle.
Here is the idle solenoid.

YEs that's the one that i need........ i found them for a 72 but 73 is different......my other centurion doesn't have this part and it also does not have a/c (runs perfectly tho).
BTW how do you clean them that nice? What product and technik do you use?

I cleaned mine by removing the rubber boot and using a bench-mounted wire wheel. I carefully cleaned off the crud and clear-coated it to prevent rust.

I may be all wrong here but I thought the purpose with that solenoid was to avoid the engine dieseling when the ignition is switched off?

If the purpose of the solenoid is to compensate the lower rpm when starting the AC (standing still), the current to the solenoid should go on and off when starting/stopping the AC.
You could check with a test lamp if it does that…:user:

I doubt it Per. the nipple where the wire connects is stripped out....... beyond repair.

I checked the wiring diagrams (and my 73) and you should look for a black&pink cable that goes to the main engine harness connector
Also tried to find a solenoid at Rockauto.com but with no success, you may wane give it a try yourself since their folders is kind of a mess

Thanks for your try Per. Yes i called today various places and nobody has it. Some of them it shows on their computer but not available. Got the phone number from another place that i'll try to get in touch. Rockauto is easy IF you don't use the FLASH/JAVA catalog and use the traditional catalog. I was wondering if the rebuilding places also put a new one on when they rebuild the carb.......?
