Hey guys I'm selling the Xmas present 73 Buick Centurion convertible 455 factory duals power windows, power seats, and floor mats. The original radio was removed. It has a newer top only about 2yrs old the top motor(needs rebuilding) but it works its kinda of weak after the further testing the top motor heats up and stops working if you wait for a few seconds it will come back on. The car has about 56k original miles and has been painted once. The carb needs adjusting or rebuilding. The tune-up is done new wires, new plugs, new cap, points, advance curve kit. The car needs a new set of tires because the ones on it now are dry rotted. The car can be driven anywhere once new tires are installed. The car is located in West Texas, Abilene area. $4k obo offer but I'm not going to sell it $3k
Thanks
Chris

Weekend update I received the regulator and now the top works okay. I also fixed the speedometer cable no clicking (who-hoo) didn't get around to the tune-up but I'm going to tune it up and recurve the distributor.

I wonder how much work she really needs.
Temptation, temptation!
That's an affordable price, even for me. LOL!

What's an R1??? (Should I know that?!?!)
Come on Speed or Rick - take the leap! This baby has some great potential. If I had the space and energy, I'd buy her and get her cleaned up for my 14 going on 24 yr old boy. He's hooked! Problem is... he ain't driving Daddyo's baby!!! :Blasting: Figure I get something now, put a few years (and some $$$) into something and have him set up when he hits 17 and is ready for his first ride. He'd be the king (you know what) driving to school in one of these babies! Think the chick's would dig it?!?!! :Brow:

Hi Steve,
Buy the Centurion and have your son earn it back through chores. Then let him work on it for the next 3 years (under your guidance). If he's put in 3 years worth of work you know he'll drive it carefully. :xyxthumbs:
A freind of mine found a wonderful budget loophole. His wife objected to him buying car parts and tools. He started purchasing tools for their son and that money seems to come from a different marital budget.
He's trying to decide if he can convince her that every 13 year old should have a TIG welder. :Dou:

Hey Cole d
I need your wife to explain to my wife why she should buy me this Buick for my birthday. My wife has yet to understand why I bought my first Centurion in 1987.

I'm with you Keith, but I am not a bike guy...
Also agree with you John. In fact, had a very serious conversation with the Mrs and my boy. Space is my issue right now. My ride is taking up the right side of the garage... my 4 kids have all their "stuff" on the left side. Tool boxes, work bench and cabinets take up the front left side, so there is very little wiggle room. Shed stores outdoor equipment. So, to spend a few grand to buy this, then a few hundred a month to store it somewhere, add to that the cost of restoration, and my pockets start to dry up a bit! However, your thought process is dead on with the boy. Spending 3 yrs side by side doing something like this is priceless. So yes, I am still kicking it around! Plus, I can get my lawn cut for "free" for a few years now!!! :Brow:
Chris - you said $4,000 grand o.b.o.... do me a favor, grease the skids some more. Tell us about the car one more time. You go me, Speedracer and Mr Dunn all thinking about this. Let's test your sales skills....

What would you like to know. The guy I bought it from had for 18yrs (well his father had it). They took pretty good care of it the problem is they live on dirt road so the undercarriage was little dirty and I think that's why the quarters have some rust. They took 8 track out and put a cassette player in it other than that its an unmolested car. When I picked it up the top relay was shot, it had a monster exhaust leak and the engine was in need of tuneup badly. I'm going to fix the exhaust leak and tune the car up I will even give the new owner a full tank of gas. It has power seats, the original floormats and the orginal interior which is in pretty decent shape if I had to rate it on a scale from 1-10 it would be a solid 7 the only reason I don't say 10 is because the seats aren't bright white. The top is brand new well about 2 yrs old but looks great. The car really just needs a good paint job and nice detailing on the undercarriage. The truck and floorpans are solid the trunk has some surface rust but that's it. If you guys have anymore questions or would like to see some pictures of anything just let me know.

I haven't pursued this Centurion right now (or any others) for several reasons.
Not because I don't like it, I do.
With some TLC she could be the car of my dreams....
I don't want to lead Cole on with a bunch of promises and waste his time.
Yesterday at work the axe fell. And six of my co-workers were let go.
I kind of knew this was coming, we had an execution day about four years ago and all the signs were leading up to another one.
One of the individuals let go was a very good friend of mine I've know for over ten years. In fact I encouraged her to apply for her job with me because I knew she could do the job. So I am feeling a bit guilty about that although I know there is nothing I could have done to prevent what happened from happening.
Although I am safe for right now I need to re-evaluate my situation.
I am getting a really nice tax return but I am going to need to bank that money. To be on the safe side.
I was planning on using some of that towards a car purchase.
If I can raise some cash by other means I'll contact Cole or pursue another vehicle.
I don't fear being terminated any time soon. I do customer service and for most of the past five or six years I have been THE customer service department.
Without me (and I am not bragging) they wouldn't have a department.
Plus I am cross trained to work the production manager's job and to work in one of our direct sales departments as a fill in csr when they are doing trade shows around the country.
But I really need to work out my immediate priorities.
I want to try to stay one step ahead of my employer because you never know what the future may bring.
Thanks everyone for understanding.
When the time is right, there will be a new-old Buick in my driveway.:)

Richard its cool I totally understand the car will sell soon enough. I wish I could have drove it today since it was a really nice day in Texas. We removed the headers and broke 10 exhaust manifold bolts so the tuneup is going slow. :bawl:

I've been kicking this around and have talking it over with my bride... It doesn't look like we're going to do this Chris. I'm with Rick and didn't want to leave you hanging with this... Sorry bud, but it's more work than what I want to take on right now and storage is in a issue. In fact, storage is a huge issue, b/c around here a garage big enough to hold these beasts will run you $125 a month. So we're going to keep looking b/c I really want to find a "mild" project for my boy and I to enjoy together. But we're a bit too early right now and two of these big beasts just takes too much garage space.
Sorry...

Richard,
I was sorry to hear about your changed situation at work and I think your decision to wait with the Buick purchase seems like a wise one.
They are talking about a recession coming soon, guess such could have an impact on the hobby car prices which would be a good thing for any potential buyer..;)

Hey Cole ( I know that's not your name, but I can't remember what it is... sorry!) Congrat's on selling her. I wish you had opted to keep and restore, but understand your decision. Did you by chance pass along the Forums' info to the new buyer? Would love to have them join up with us.
Good luck on your new endeavor!
