I thought maybe with the help of all you other Buick guys maybe I could finally get this all completely striaight. This is as much as I know:
nailheads 59-66:
1959-1961: the invicta years
364 = le sabre
401 = invicta, electra
Nearly all the cars came with the dynaflow, although I think some le sabres came with a 3 speed manual, no 4 speeds.
1962: It seems both the invicta and the wildcat were available this year? But the only engines for all big buicks were different versions of the 401. 4 speed on the wildcat? 3 speed?
1963-1966: wildcats with nailheads
Both the 401 and 425 were available, but I'm not sure if the 425 came standard in the electra or wildcat or not. Also the 425 came in a factory dual quad version, (64-66?). Most if not all of these years the wildcat could be had with a 4 speed (I'm not sure about '66). I've never seen one but I would think they had the 3 speeds these years too?
big blocks 400, 430, 455: 67-76
67-69: wildcats with 430s
70: 'cat with 455
71-73: centurion with 455
73: centurion with 350 or 455
74-76: only le sabres and electras: le sabre came standard with the 350 (but could be had with the 455), electra with 455.
Not sure, but I don't think the 400 was used in the big cars?
I don't think any of the big buicks 67-76 came with 4speeds. I'm not sure whether a 3 speed manual existed in the le sabre or not?
small blocks: 215, 300, 340, 350
215: I don't think the aluminum 215, produced from 61-63 ever found it's way into a big car.
300, 340: produced from 64-67 I'm not sure if these were used in big buicks or not, maybe on the le sabre?
350: produced from 68-76 Definetly found in le sabres of those years (and 73 Centurions), it may have been the standard engine in the le sabre from '68 on?
Automatics: I'm not quite sure which year was the transition between the dynaflow and the TH400 (I don't think any big buicks came with the TH350, except maybe those with the small blocks), but I would think the TH came out in the Buick the same time as the big block in 67? I'm also not sure which years the switch pitch TH400 was offered, I know they didn't use it in the centurion, so that would limit it to 67-70, or maybe it was just on the 430s 67-69?
