View Full Version : 1972 Centurion convertible
Hey all, cool forum, I have a 72 Centurion conv, it's my daily driver. There should be a pic down below. It's got the 455, TH400 tranny, lots of options: power everything: top, doors, windows, trunk, seats, steering, brakes; AC, cruise control, tilt wheel, AM/FM stereo (although I've been on the lookout to upgrade to one with an 8-track), dual exhaust (I added that). I currently am stuck in an apartment where I really don't have a place to work on it, but as soon as I do I have plans to really fix it up nice.
I'm a big fan of full size GM cars 1959-1976, I just like the overall looks of them (I've had 68 and 72 Chevrolet Impalas in the past), but I'm especially fond of Buicks as they seem to combine a lot of performance options with luxury options, particularly when you look at the Invicta-Wildcat-Centurion cars.

Hey, thatīs a very nice car you have !! And you use it as your daily driver; I guess I would do that also if living in such a sunny area like LA. In Germany I have to wait several weeks sometime to be able to drive through warm sunshine.:rooleyes2:
Welcome here and enjoy our community - and your car of course !

Welcome to the club!:xyxthumbs:
Thanks :xyxthumbs:
These hubcabs are my favorite of all those Buick offered these years, as far as looks go I think I might even prefer them to the rally wheels. I don't believe those strips on the side is original, every other Centurion I've ever seen has them lower. The car was repainted once, and some bodywork was done on the right side, they were probably changed then. The paint actually isn't very good, not nearly as good as it looks in that pic. The car is otherwise pretty original, about 145k miles, 10k of which I've put on in the past 2 years, I bought it from the 2nd owner, who bought it back in the late 70s, he told me he had it repainted then, and he didn't drive it much (the tires on there when I got it were from '82).

Great looking car! Welcome. I used to own a red and white 72 convertible that I drove daily for the first year. I really miss driving a vintage car every day. I used to fret about gas then (96) I can't imagine what it's like to put gas in that car for daily use now. Especially in L.A.! Yo umust be a real die hard fan! Good for you!

Sweet looking ride. That's a real head-turner. My kids keep bugging me to repaint my bamboo cream '72 convertible to red.
My Centurion was originally equipped with the same wire wheels, but it's first 30+ years of operation in Indiana and Michigan rusted them into oblivion (according to the former owner). I'm living with dog dishes right now. Those wire wheels rarely if ever come up for sale. I'm jealous.

Keith, You should get a set and go back and forth. You could have repro bias plys on one and radials on the other.

nice car!
what gas-mileage do you get?
Welcome,
btw it's not me who has changed my name..
Daily driver in L.A. living in an apartment complex,, sounds just like me.
Where are you located? I'm in Hollywood.
I'm in Sherman Oaks. The gas milage is not too good lately due to carburetor trouble. And I like the more 70s looking colors, that 72 Impala I had was a 4dr post, puke green with a puke green interrior, 400ci small block, and dual pipes with burnt out glasspacks that used to set off car alarms, that was a great car. Actually the red really isn't for me, it reminds me of a 65 Mustang I had for a while that I painted red, and I never liked that car. I know it's not original, but lately I've been thinking how good the Centurion would look black with a red pinstripe and white top.

Actually the red color is the preference of my 14 and 12 year old daughters. I myself also like the 70's colors, so there's no chance of my Beast undergoing a color (and personality) change.:xyxthumbs:
