Hey Adam - any chance this site could support "instant messaging" ???
That way if two guys want to "chat" about a deal or a part or anything else, that they could just click the name and perhaps start a chat? Private messaging works, but there would be nothing like "real time" talk when you need immediate advice or like I said above, if you're negotiating something, etc. Just a thought that would be nice if it were available....

I have found that people sometimes tend to miss they have got a private message or they discover it at a later time and find it embarrassing to reply then.
Not sure but I think you get a pop-up window at the v8-forum when receiving a message and log on, if so that might be a possibility for this site too?

why don´t you use ICQ or Skype??
it´s simple-
send the other one a PM with the name or contact...
or put the informations in the avatar.
with a mic. you can even talk..
the only problem is that not everybody uses the same messenger :error:

Yes, that´s it ! Also it could be possible to PM the normal phone number and talk by the normal phone. No problem.

Going back 4 years when the Buick Performance Group was being formed we had about 5 to 8 people on line with mikes or we can just type on an instant message board. It was pretty cool like a party line. Best of all it was not costing you any long distant phone call amounts.
I don't recal the system, as once the club formed we stopped using it. Adam may shed some light, though I am pretty sure this was before Adam got involved with the BPG.

Regarding instant messaging or chat rooms that are "Built in" to the forums, I have seen nothing but headaches and slow software performance from every one I have experienced. I would be very hesitant to install something like that on here.
I use AOL Instant Messenger with the name "JozTotz" , and that is always on. I remember Buickland.com had a shoutbox, but that was run with a forum portal, and I don't do that.

Does anyone knows MSN? that's the most used chat program in europe.

I think a regular chat "writing" integrated in this site would be good enough. Voice would be nice too. AOL, MSN, Yahoo, Skype, and so on you got to be online that again would mean you would have to talk even if you dont feel like or have to tell them to wait because you are already with someone else online ect, ect, would fade off and sometimes even misunderstandings will happen.

As soon as vBulletin 3.7 is officially released (and supported), then I will upgrade the forums.
Version 3.7 has public messaging through user profiles, very similar to a shoutbox. We'll see how that works out.
Plus, version 3.7 has a ton of new features that will enhance the site, and allow the users to customize their "experience" here on the forums.

Sounds exciting! :xyxthumbs:
It might open the opportunity for Steve’s spare part wish list too….

Sounds good Adam- That's the thought I had, but didn't know it was called that. The other idea's are good too, but that would require monitoring another site or another popup. Truth is, I am not good enough on these things to do such a thing. I like the idea of coming here, seeing that such and such is online, and clicking their name to say hey, ask a question, etc. Let's see what the upgrade allows and go from there. Also, if the upgrade allows that "part list post" I am dreaming of then great! If not, I have been working on an idea that I will share soon. It will require someone (probably me) to maintain it, but hell, it was my brain child! :xyxthumbs:

Steve, if you would maintain it you could create a part list here: only open a new threat, declare the rules (for example the interested sellers and buyers have to send you a PM with all details - their asking or their offer and after they made a deal they have to inform you also) and you fill the list and update it by editing.

Talked to a friend this weekend that uses a freeware named Skype to converse with his buddy in Asia. “You need to install the software and connect a headset to the computer, then it’s almost like talking on a regular telephone but without charge”, he said.
Think I’m gone give it a try, if it works well it might be a tool for us to use, for those that want of course :D

Finally got my headset to work and could test Skype today.
This is a pretty neat tool on which you can send an instant message to another Skype member, or call them via a headset connected to the computer. Sound quality was quite good on the one call I made so far.
You can also call to an ordinary phone or cell for a very low rate.
When you’re logged on you can choose your one-line status to like for ex “do not disturb” or “not by my computer right now” and that actually shows on my Skype logo on the centurion board too, pretty cool!
Skype is free to download from Skype.com and costs nothing to use (except when calling ordinary telephones), you only need a decent internet connection and a headset to use it...
