This leads me to think we would be better off networking on buying a complete car for parts. Figuring guys owning the particular years would group together and collectively buy into the car. The guy who does the actual locating and picking the car up would get first dibs on what part they need. Then the other partners would chime in collectively and part out the car. Shipping of parts would be paid by the partner that needs the part and the partner that has the car would remove the part and ship it. So being the guy who locates and get the car does most of the work, it would only be fair for that guy to get the first pick.
Think about it for a minute. Parts can run you in the hundreds when you can invest that into a parts car with 3 other guys, then you get your parts and more! Another example, I owning a '73 do not need trunk emblems or any emblems, don't need the trunk chrome trim. But I am looking for decent bumpers and the front rubber bumper strips. So say I find a car, well instead of raping fellow board members on ebay prices I would buy the car along with 2-3 other guys who need parts.
Keith you are looking for a cruise control option. How much would that cost you on e-bay and that would be a COMPLETE option, nothing missing. You buy into a parts car and you end up saving and maybe getting some extras too.
I am currently searching for a 73 either hardtop or ragtop but it has to be a 2-door and have a decent body. The frame can be rusted to the hilt. If the car goes for say $1500 and is split 3 ways, thats $500 each. Now what does a rear trunk emblem and trunk molding run...eh lets say collectively close to a grand. What does the rubber bumper moldings go for. E-bay easily front and rear can fetch about $500 alone and that is if no one else is fighting you over them. Get the drift here guys? It's time to pool our resourses.

I really follow your thoughts and it should be a good deal for everyone thats searching for parts. However theres a storage issue for the one that will have to have the parts car at home..
Or, maybe everone should list all what they are searching for first. I know you have discussed this before. If several wants similar parts it might be a better idea to reproduce them and share the initial costs. Thereafter we together could sell the item om ebay and hopefully have all money back.
I beleive in a "wishlist" first. Perhaps Santa will pick it up anyway:p

Ron, when I do get a parts car, you will have first dibs on the rear rubber bumper strips.
Regarding space, I do have the space and the trailer to pick up a non running car. Just that with the size of these land boats I refrain from towing from over two hours away. Picked up a 73 Centurion convertible 350 about 3 years back for under 900 dollars. Darn thing just bearly fit on the trailer. It was cool though towing a Centurion with a Centurion. Got a ton of extras with that car including a complete working top. It wasn't worth restoring unless you like drive a car made for the Flintstones (All the floor boards were rusted almost completely out)
Anyway, if or I sould say when, I find a '73 I will let the Board know, if some guys want to go in on it that will be fine. We split the cost and split the car up on what we need. I am not looking on making this a business venture or making profits on it.
Example: That 73 trunk emblem, trunk chrome moldings are worth some big bucks alone which one can recoup their investment into the car for just those items alone. Sheet metal, grill, emblems, most pieces I don't need anymore as I have spares already. I would prefer a 455 Centurion as I can use the engine. Hardtop or ragtop just as long as it is a two door. Keith just think how much a complete cruise control option would cost you on e-bay? Better chance getting a complete set by just an investment on a parts car, and cheaper too.

I think both Rick and Michael are onto something here.
Buying a suitable parts donator for the right money and splitting the costs could mean good business considering the prices on ebay, which has been pointed out.
The possibility to manufacture extremely rare parts (for ex the rubber bumper strips) that are expensive and highly demanded is also a good idea but will require the right contacts.

Great idea Rick! You and I have discussed this before. I'd be willing to do it, but I've got a 72. I know some parts are interchangable, but not all of them. I'd be willing to throw in for this, or to at least buy what I need from you and your partners...
Micke - the wish list thing is something I've been after for months. I don't think this site can do what we want it to do. (no disrespect intended Adam!)
It's a great site, it just doesn't have the innerworkings to allow us to "List" our wishes..... Wide open to idea's on how to make this happen guys!
