I thought I'd start a new thread about this car. The other one was getting a bit long.
I stopped and saw the car again today. I dragged my mom there on the way home from Rehoboth Beach Delaware.
I would rate the car as about #3 condition. It needs lots of exterior cosmetics and I took a short over look of the exterior.
The rust extends along the entire bottom of the passenger door. The front bumper rub strip will need replacing. And I think the bumper may be pushed in a bit.
All of the chrome on the bumpers looks good but will need polishing and detailing.
The rubber around the windshield frame is dry rotted and stiff.
The car was locked but a good look at the interior revealed that the seats will need a good cleaning. I missed a lot when I saw the car last week. I think in my excitement I wasn't seeing too clearly.
She will probably need to be repainted. I hated to say that but it's true.
There are pings along the driver's side which don't show in the pictures.
Even my mom, God love her, said that the top would need replacing.
She probably needs front suspension work too, I think she's sitting a bit low.
SOOOOOO, I am taking my mechanic friend with me to drive the car between now and next Saturday. I still like the car but I am now convinced the car is way over priced for the condition.
If my friend thinks that the car is mechanically sound I am going to offer them a much lower price and see what happens.
Like you guys said, there may be another one that works better for me. I wish it were this one, it speaks to me every time I see it.
It says: "Take me home and love me!"
I attached two pictures from the ad on the dealer's website.

Richard,
I really hate to tell you this but when one of my friends has told me "that the car speaks to me", then the car has an awfully good chance of going home with him. You're doing all the right things in spite of your passion but I know there are a bunch of us hoping that it all works out right for you. I join Keith in wishing you good luck.

Make that an even three... :Brow: Good luck!
The potential is there. I too was spoken too. It's now in my parking lot today as I was having withdrawls. 69 degees and she needed to be driven!
Rehobeth is a hour and 20 from me... buy this and next summer we can go on a nice cruise! No pressure though! :beers:

I am planning on going back on Saturday with my friend.
I called tonight and left a message for him to call me back.
I know I will be buying a good car cover because it won't make into a garage unless my friend lets me keep it where he keeps his Chevelle. My garage is used a store room and catch all.
Now for the questions.
I know I may be jumping the gun a bit but if I do get this at a price I'm willing to pay, WHERE DO I START????
Or maybe I should wait and see what happens.....

I went back again yesterday.
I did not take my friend because I had decided to back out of the deal.
I feel that the asking prices is WAY WAY WAY to high for the amount of work needed.
But I drove it again.
Newest observations.
Engine and transmission feel great. She needs to be driven.
The exhaust sounds throaty....don't know how else to explain it.
Brakes felt better, so they may be okay for now.
I think it's a bad power steering belt not the pump.
The air conditioning works but may need a shot of freon.
Stereo works, even the 8-track.
Clock not working.
Left rear window goes down, needs help back up. Balance of windows slow.
Power door locks need help.
I popped the hood. Everything looked good and sounded good. Just a little dusty.
I opened the trunk and again, lots of odds and ends. The boot is dirtier than I remembered. The interior is in need of a good cleaning.
Now for the bad. The top. I put it down and I knew from experience something was wrong. The cable (?) on the left side is broken so it was folding crooked. We got it down and it sat down in the well properly without breaking the back glass. But when we brought it back up the middle top bow was sliding wrong and ended up near the front latch. We kind of left it there because I couldn't remember how to fix it.
So now I don't know if I should just walk away or really low ball an offer to them. :confused4: My house mate thinks I am walking into a money pit.
And then suddenly there are Centurions everywhere. There are several on Ebay right now. Someone I emailed on the west coast got back to me and asked me to make them an offer......on a loaded 1973.
Then to top it all off I have a lead on a mint 1961 Lincoln convertible that is part of an estate. No one wants it and I was asked to make an offer on it.
A friend told me they are desperate to sell and just want to see it go.
Why couldn't I have been just born rich, not just born with good taste? :bawl:
