I am not a mechanic, but am mechanicaly inclined.

Could a vacuum leak on a brake booster cause the car to misfire? My mechanic is telling me this. I trust and belive him, but I thought I'd put this out there.

It could, if the vacuum leak is bad enough. Plug the hose going to the booster, and see if the car runs better. If you drive it with the hose plugged, be very careful, since you will not have power brakes.
