View Full Version : Four Centurions in December "Collectible Automobile"
Centurion
09-25-2007, 02:10 PM
The December, 2007 issue of "Collectible Automobile" magazine has just been mailed to subscribers, and the feature article covers the 1971 - 1976 full-size Buicks, including our Centurions.
The magazine's trademark is its use of lavish color photography, and Centurions belonging to three of our members here were photographed for this issue.
My3Buicks' Flame Orange '72 Centurion convertible
Bob Alberini's Charcoal Mist '72 Centurion 4-door hardtop
Centurion's Sandpiper Beige '71 Centurion Formal coupe
There's also a '73 Centurion convertible shown in the article, but I do not recognize the owner's name as a member here.
Bob Alberini's Crystal Blue '72 Electra 225 Limited 4-door hardtop was also photographed for the article.
The article includes many photos of the various styling studies and mockups used in the design of the large '71 Buicks, so you can gain an understanding of the design evolution for our cars.
The magazine should appear on newsstands in a couple of weeks. Border's Books and Barnes & Noble typically carry this publication here in the USA.

Rick and Steve, as I was informed today I could get this magazine here in Germany; but they have the problem that there are different magazins available with the same title (Collectible Automobile). To find and to order the right one it would be a great help for me to get a picture of the front page of the correct magazine (Collectible Automobile , issue December 2007) and the ISBN or ISSN number of it (normally that number is printed on the front page or on the table of contents) .
If possible I would appreciate if you (or another friend of our forum reading this) would post such a picture of the magazine and its number here into this thread. So I could print that picture and hand it with the number to the magazine dealer. Then - I hope so - it will be no problem to buy it here in Germany ! :xyxthumbs:
Thanks in advance !!

Rick and Steve, just now I got the information that I can not get this magazine here in Germany :( ! Therefore I would be glad if one of you would buy an issue for me and send it to Germany. I will let you know my address with a PM and send money by PAYPAL like Per would do it. And I´m with Per, who wrote : "There’s no rush for me getting the magazine as long as I get one. OK I have 1 extra copy so far and will head out Monday to locate 2 more copies. I found that Barnes & Noble Book stores carry this magazine.
In the mean time Per, Michael Haak and Rolf. PM me your full mailing addresses so that I can get an exact postage amount to ship it and then I will let you guys know the exact cost. The issue is $7.95 US currency. I am not asking for anything more than what the magazine costs plus the postage.

I finally got 3 extra copies of this issue all new. This magazine is a hard one to find and when you find it there are only one to about 5 on the rack. The magazine is $ 8.00 dollars (USA) I have them packaged up and will be bringing them tomorrow to the post office to get an exact price to each of you.
I will then post the cost here and ship them out once you give me the final OK on it. I trust you guys so I won't bother waiting for the payment. Total cost will be exactly on what I paid. I kind of guessing the total price should be around maybe 20 bucks (USA) including shipping maybe? I will though, get an exact amount.
I do have pay pal, I just have to figure it out. Otherwise a bank check will do.

Appreciate you doing this for us Rick!
My address is 100% correct.
Think Paypal would be the smoothest way to transfer the money both for you and us. We would be more than glad to support if you have any questions using it. I have it and I’m pretty sure Rolf has it too, don’t know about Michel though?
Bank transfer works also but requires a little paper work plus you need to go to the bank during bank hours.
One option could be to just send you cash in envelope, which works too.
Thanks for taking care of the European Centurion Division Rick! :beers: :D :beers:

If I’m not mistaken, Paypal charge the receiver for the money transfer. Please make sure to add that to the cost so we get that covered too.
Anyone on the board who remember how many % it is?

Rick, I would also prefer to send the money with PAYPAL. Only send us your PAYPAL-email-address and the total sum that has to be wired to you. You should have the money very fast and in a way that is best ensured compared to the other possibilities !
Thanks for all your work for us !:beers:

I looked to PAYPAL Germany : if money is send from USA to Germany they charge 3.9 % + $0,30 from the addressee plus an exchange fee of 2.5% to convert $ to € for the sender of the money.
I guess it will be the same for our deal - that means you have to count in those 3.9 % + $0,30, Rick; but check it out if it´s really the same when you get the money from Europe because I can not see that !!

That´s normal, Mike, because the differance of the exchange rate $/€ of PAYPAL compared to the normal banking rates is not shown - you have to compare them yourself and find out the differance ! And the %´s that the addressee has to pay is not to be seen for you ! I´m sure you understand it now (?) !

I was able to pick this magazine up a week ago at Barnes & Noble, which is one of the few places that stock it.
Wait till you see the prototypes. I found them to be absolutely fascinating. In 1968 they had one that you'd say was a Centurion if you looked quickly. The lines, the proportions even some of the details were worked out that far in advance.
I was also interested to see the different directions they considered, some more Riviera like, others look like they evolved into the '73 GS.
If you look closely you can see that each prototype has slight differences on the left and right side, as they refine the details.
Great stuff.

Hi Rolf, I understand it now. Never mind Rick I will send you some more so you don't have extra costs because of that extra % for the 'seller'. With the low dollar-euro we have already 40% advantage.:D

OK I checked with the Post Office. They told me that Priority Mail is 20 bucks plus an extra customs fee :moonu: and a customs card must be added . But if I mail it regular First Class mail it's only $8.80 and no extra fees or custom cards to be filled out! The clerk told me there is really no difference in service between the two, other than Priority Mail may get there a day or so earlier for a lot more money.
So I figure that the First Class $8.80 would be the thing to do. If everyone aggrees then I will mail it off that way. I grabbed my wife's plastic food sealer which I will try to seal the magazines inside a water tight plastic wrap to protect it. They will be in a magazine size solid white envelope.
Total amount owed each will be $17.00
If you guys want to you can just stick the $17 dollars between some blank paper inside an envelope and mail it back to me. US currency of course;)
I will mail the magazines out tomorrow (October 27th, Saturday)
My Pay Pal e-mail address is : marti44@comcast.net I am not sure after checking at Pay Pal if an additional amount is billed.
If you like you guys can instead just put 17 dollars USC between blank paper inside an envelope and mail it off to me.
You guys can decide which way to do it, does not matter to me. Always glad to be a help.

Hey Rick and others....... I have been looking around here at a few different stores and I can't find extra copies yet. I have one, but that guy said he'd order more and hasn't yet. The other two places I've checked sold the one copy they get already. And I am sorry. I never thought it would be this tough. :confused4:

I mailed out all three magazines today. Still had to fill out a Customs card, it did not effect the cost. I was told it was not needed, but if Customs pulls one of the envelopes they will inspect the contents and then send it back to me and the bad part is it could take up to a month in delays. So I did the cards anyway instead of taking a chance on getting the magazines lost or damaged.
I was told it would take about a week to get to you guys. So please let me know on this thread when you get the magazine and if they arrived not damaged. I sealed the magazines inside an air and water tight clear plastic bag which is inside a solid white business mailing envelope.
It is a great issue you guys should enjoy it!!

Last June at the Buicks at Norwalk, Ohio there were two guys and a woman all from the Netherlands. Sorry don't remember their names. They were visiting the States and came over during the Buick event. They had a great time at the event! They caught my run at the track on video when my fiberglass door pealed off hitting the other car smashing out the windshield. We ended up fixing both cars the following morning so we can still go racing  It was a cool video.

My copy arrived yesterday :xyxthumbs: . I haven’t read through the whole article yet, but it sure is interesting reading.
Always though Bob’s four door was green? The one in the article appeared to be steel grey, maybe he got two of them?
Keith’s and Brian’s cars looked great too on the pictures.
Rick, really appreciate that you had checked the box “gift” in the customs paper. Otherwise the Swedish tax department would have charged me for 25% of the value of the goods plus the shipping cost. Then they charge you for an extra 12 dollars for the trouble they had to charge you in the first place   :Blasting: :Blasting: :Blasting:
That’s what they did with the center caps I just bought on ebay.
I intended to tell you but then I thought this would pass as an ordinary letter, also I didn’t want to burden you with more things to think of when sending these magazines

Yes...I just noticed it this morning.
I thought it was mine, since I had sent some samples to the person in charge of the photos. I compared it to the ones I sent, and they aren't the same. I'm assuming that's a picture of Bob's "helmet."
Interesting, since the page mentions nothing of Buicks or Centurions.

Bob's Centurion is Charcoal Mist, which is dark gray, but without question it has a tint of green to it. In some light situations the green really pops out.

I believe that the helmet photo on page 7 was shot by the photographer who worked with my car. He made a point of shooting the emblem, and, while it's difficult to tell for certain from the photo, I believe that the vinyl top background is dark brown rather than black.
I also thought it curious that the editor's page made no mention of the Buick article. Most readers would have no idea that the emblem photo was a tie to the Buick article.
