Guys, I gotta take a minute to just talk... This past weekend, I got up Saturday morning and pulled the ole girl out of her stall. Fluffed and buffed her for a good two hours. I mean we (my kids and I) got her squeaky clean! Then I ran up to the gas station and put about $45 dollars worth of Sunoco's high octane in her. Loaded up the wife and kids and went cruizin.... We drove the wheels off of her over the weekend. It was a perfect 79 degrees, the top was down, the music was up and we were one cool family!
As fate would have it, we drove past a Cruise Night at a local burger joint... I'd heard this place has a cruise but didn't know when or the times. Anyway, it was Cruise night!! We pulled in and there were well over 100 cars already there and many more still lined up to get in. The people were super friendly, the "old timers" were helpful and folks were just plain nice. What a great time! Kids went balistic, wife enjoyed it, I was like a kid in a candy store!! The car got lot's of attention too... I was the only big Buick there. Several Skylarks were there, but nothing that even came close to the look we've all come to love. These old boats still turn every head they drive by! This was a "no trophy" show, not that it really mattered. What I got from the looks on my families faces and the fun we had, made it all worth while.
The point I wanted to make guys is this...
Get out and enjoy your car. Drive the damn thing. Fall back in love with her. (your car that is) Truth be told, I've been so caught up in parts and making my ride "perfect" that I forgot why I bought it in the first place. To drive it. To feel the nostalgia that comes with driving these lovely ladies. To teach my kids and to spend time with the family enjoying something we all love. If nothing teaches us this more than Kimson's (EEE) ordeal (go read his post), then I don't know what will. You've got a car that has 30+ yrs of history in it. Go have fun. Gas her up and let the wind rush through your hair!
Ok, I'll get off my soap box now guys. Thanks for letting me share.
:beers:
