Were any Centurions made with 4spd on the floor? What about gages? Optional or no? Has anyone here added gages, if so, can I see pics? Has anyone edited their instrument panel?

There are supposedly one or two three speed manual LeSabres floating around. As for gaugues, some of us have added a tach, oil pressure water temp etc. I'll see if I can find a picture of mine.

thanks Id really like to see that... Im considering different places to put gages.. thought about a quad (it has four gages in one). Might take the clock out and put it there or, since I dont have cruise, I can put it there... or I could be a purist and simply put it under the dash...with some kind of stick on faster. heh.

I wonder why they didnt offer gages, the Centurion is supposed to be the sport model.

Gary,
According to production records, only one 71 Centurion was built with a manual transmission. That was a convertible but I have no idea what kind of manual transmission it was. The UPC code was M-41 so if any of the 71 guys have a 71 assembly manual, they should be able to find it in there and be able to tell you.

I kinda cheated on mine, I am putting on a Hood mounted Tach from a 455 Equipped GS & the Aux Guages will be digital and hidden willow green is the color & I think it will look better in my opinion after all the crap that was done to the engine I need all the eyes & ears on that thing I can get away with...

Hi Gary,
I’ve thinking about where to put my triple gauge set for a long time now. Had my mind set to rebuild the big ashtray for a while, but gave it up after a closer look.

My current plan is to mount a black metal triple gauge holder (see pict) on the lower part of the ashtray, on the outside this time, I made a test just holding it there and it actually looked rather good I think.
What I really would like though is to find the kind of short middle console with gauge housing to be mounted on the floor (on the tunnel) under the dash. The kind I’m thinking of could hold the three gauges and has a little storage space in front where you can put cell phones, keys etc, it shouldn’t be the kind that goes all the way to the bench though.

That would really be a neat solution but I’m unable to find such on the market, I’ve been looking on Ebay etc but without result. Almost all modern cars already have middle consoles so the after market mainly offers A-pillar consoles :p

I am not sure I see the need for gauges, am I missing something here? :confused4:
In my case I want to keep track on the temperature, the stock system only has the so called “idiot lamp” and you can’t really see the trend of the engine temp.
During the big summer Cruises here you typically end up standing still in queues and the engine get overheated sometimes from standing still and idling too long.

That’s why I want the temp gauge, the oil pressure and volt only tags along but they could come handy too in some matter.

Oh Per, I made a mistake: just saw the picture and gave the answer :Dou: !
Now I read your text slowly and recognized my failure - excuse me !
Don´t know where you could find such a console.

I have Water Temp and Volt gauges in the spot where the left A/C vent would've been. My car came without A/C so it was a nice empty space. The oil pressure gauge is in the clock housing.

The attachment shows the style of gauges. I liked them because they had a slightly nautical feel which I thought appropriate for my boat.

I'll try to get some pictures tonight.

No worries Rolf, you were just eager to help…

Where did you put your gauges?

Per, I just bought them; I´ll mount them in spring. Guess I´ll mount them under the dash left of the ash tray. So I keep enough space for my legs and the gauges are to be seen easily. I only bought 2 gauges : water temp. and oil pressure (analog).

But if you want a console in the middle you could build one yourself: saw from wooden board some needed parts and cover them with vinyl before mounting them together with the gauges. In this way you could design it as you want to have your console. - Guess I will think about this possibility too now.

... thought about such a console; seems to be a good idea, Per !
It could be designed like my simple drawing shows it (the front a little bit turned to the driver for better reading of the gauges) (?).

I had mine under the ashtray, mounted the quad qauge setup on a metal bracket that I screwed in under there, fit perfectly. I'm planning on doing a similar deal on my new car, but going with two larger oil pressure/water temp gauges only.
