View Full Version : Will these rally's fit?

The offset of the rally wheels is 4 inch.
Bolt pattern is 5x5 inch.
They are 7 inch wide.
They are 15 inch without hubcaps.
They are for a riviera or wildcat but here is my question:
will they fit a centurion?

There are two types of Buick factory Rally Wheels, one for -71 and another for 71-.
The last one is correct for the Centurion, see the detailed info below (from Kimson actually).
I think someone said it was due to bigger brakes from 1971 that led to the second type of wheels.
From the info below it seems like you should take some measures on a rim and get back with the result to this board.
.
Even if Buick Rally Wheels look the same on late 60 ts as on early 70 ts there are differences and the one for Centurions should be 71- (The rallye rims that came on the pre '71 big Buicks look the same as the one's that came on the big Buicks in '71 and onwards, but they're not identical. The earlier rims had a ring inside the center hole on the back, and the center cap hole was also slightly larger to hold a different cap design. The distance from the lug holes to the rim edge on the back is also 1cm less on the older rims. There's also a difference in the angle of the flat face edge around the rim, it has a slightly deeper banking on the earlier version than the '71 onwards. The differences are very hard to see unless you have two rims right next to each other and really look for the design variation. Both versions do have the same 5x5 bolt pattern though, and were 15x6 inches.)
Hi Michel, if you have any pics of them we could probably tell by just looking at them if they're the right kind.

They look like the right ones to me.
Someone on the board can probably tell for sure that they are correct
They sure look right, but the differnces are small so it's hard to tell even by looking at the pictures. If they don't have a ring welded to the center section of the rims on the back then it's probably all fine. You could probably use those with the ring too. There are just some different versions of the pre '71 generation (with ring) that have a difference if you would look at the rim from the top. The angular structure of how the rim is built from front to back have different styles to accomodate the drums.

I haven't heard anything of the guy who sells them so... Anyway I was looking for a set rallys which are a bit better in condition, I was only wondering if they fit.

Make sure the wheels you are looking for, have a 2" hole in the center, NOT 2 1/8". Also the later wheels have more backspacing than the early wheels. Kimson mentioned the "ring" inside the wheel - those can be punched out if you need them to. But I believe the wheels with the rings are also the incorrect year.
We should probably start a thread noting all the different wheel types. I think the Bugle had an article that did this at one time. Does anyone have that Bugle? It was just before my time in the BCA...

Michel,
If the look of the road wheels really lights your fire, then you should ultimately find yourself a set but I did want you to be aware that the wire wheel covers on your Formal Coupe were a rather unique option. Of the 14,187 72 Formal Coupes built, only 457 (3.22%) were built with the wire wheel cover option.
On the other hand, your car's color, Antique Gold, was the third most popular color ordered on the 72 Formal Coupes. 1,499 cars were Antique Gold and only Nutmeg and Seamist Green saw higher numbers.

Hi Bob, thanks for the information. Yes I do really like rally wheels because they make the car alot more aggresive and because i'm a young driver I really like that.
But the wheelcovers which are mounted now make the car very original and classy, and I like them too. But if I can effort some nice rally wheels I will buy them, and I will keep the wheelcovers and maybe I will put them on the car If I would sell it... and Bob, how did you get that information about the productions number of all those options. Can you send them to me?

Hi Michel,
You inquired where the data came from so here's the answer. A few years ago, we found out that the Sloan Museum had acquired a great deal of Buick build data from 1970 (I believe) forward. The complete data list was available for each available year and model for $30each. A very small group of us chipped in and acquired all the data for each model of 71 and 72 Centurions but not 73 although I have made a proposal to Adam about that too. It wasn't an inexpensive venture but the data is absolutely fantastic if you like that sort of thing. Some of us sure do.
If your car is in the Registry, just give me the VIN and I'll be happy to provide you with the in depth details about your car. If Adam doesn't have it on the site yet, send me the list of options and I can tell you how many were built with each specific option. I can do the same for the vinyl roof and interior trim too if you send along the information. If you tell me which plant your car was assembled in, I can even tell you how many of your particular model were built there. It is great information and I'll be glad to share a great deal more with you about your car.

Michel,
Check out these ones, the shipping to Holland will probably cost you though, but it wont hurt to ask.

They have stated 1971-1985 and they look exactly like the ones I have on, but then again Ive heard about how hard it can be to separate these two just by looking on pictures.

I've e-mailed the company about the shipping costs. Well if they say it's the 71-85 model, I suppose they're right? If the shipping costs are too high I will not buy them anyway.

Since they are in the wheel business, they should know what they are selling.
You could double-check with them to be on the safe side though.
Youll will need lug nuts and center caps as well unless you have such already.:coffee:

What are lug nuts?

Lug nuts are the five nuts you have on each wheel attaching the wheel to the car. You'll need chromed acorn style to look good on the rallys

Note the difference in centers on the wheels in the ebay ad, compared to this one:
http://i4.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/8e/fe/9b26_1.JPG
This is one of the wheels in question on the ebay ad: The center hole is bigger, and the backspacing on the wheel is less than the one pictured above.

Also, compare the ebay auction wheels with the ones in post #4 of this thread. Look closely at the recessed areas where the lug nuts go.

You can buy those nuts here :

I bought some antitheft lock nuts for my car from their German trade point. They are cheap and of good quality.

Comparing the pictures I think I see what you mean Adam, but I have to hand it to Kimson, it aint easy to see the difference.
Its surprising that such a big rim retailer dont know what they are selling.
