When did hei become standard in gm vehicles?
If you upgrade point type ignition system to hei,how much work is involved?
Any tips for rewiring the ignition system?
Which ignition systems do you guys recommend?
This is for reliability on the street, maybe occasional drag strip runs just for fun.

I don't have any pictures myself.
LARRY70GS on the v8buick board has some pictures of his...from Dave's Small Body HEI's

1. I think it was in '74
2. Not much, just cleaning out the old crap and dropping in the HEI. You'll have to pull a new (+) wire from the fuse box, cause the standard distributer wire has a built in volt drop (resistor wire). I had to change the original distributor gear over to the HEI, since it was from a 350, different amounts of teeth 14/15 I think, no biggie.
3. If you go with the HEI, it's just on (+) wire and that's it. You can also add a tach directly to it, has a terminal for that.
4. I went with a recurveds HEI, worked fine for me and the car got a lot more responsive. I still haven't tried out at which degree setting it should be. Think mine's at 30 right now, I'd like to bump it a bit to see what happens
