how big of a pain is it to swap the heater core in these cars??? mine is bad, seems the parts are easy enough to come by, but i have no clue if i want to tackle this job myself or farm it out. what all is involved here in putting a new one in??

A couple hours and some patience. I did it going in blind, knowing nothing of how to get to it. The core comes out under the dash. There are some nuts that have to be removed from the firewall side, but most of the work is under the dash. It's not too bad to do.

It's not to hard if your young and limber like Adam and you don't have my patience.

Ha!

It's been at least 7 or 8 years since I changed one in a 71, but from what I remember, the cables are the worst thing to deal with when trying to get the heater box out from under the dash. It was about a 2-3 hour ordeal in freezing temps. Why is it always sub-zero temperatures when you have repairs to do?
