I learned the hardway this weekend that you can't fill the trunk and then put the top down. Duh. Needless to say the glass is broke and the search begins...any ideas where to find the glass for a '73, and how difficult is it to replace?

Sorry to hear that
You could check ebay
I have seen ads where only the rear section was offered
But i have no idea how difficult it is to install
I myself have just ordered my own complete top at the convertibletopguys.com and it is on its way over here http://www.convertibletopguys.com/category/view/722#packages
I estimate that i will have it here next month then i can tell you about the quality
They offer the part you need for from $79 for the plastic window up to $249 for the tinted heated glass window section

Replace it with glass you can still fairly find it. When I did my top back in 1997 I went with plastic....I HATE IT, I HATE IT, I HATE IT. It scratches easily despite what they tell you, and it starts to cloud up. Overall I think it's sh1t. I will be doing my '73 over hopefully this winter (paint and new top) I will DEFINITELY replace it with a factory style glass rear window.

Hi John,

The roof on our car comes in 2 peices. One peice contains the rear window and attaches to the 2nd or 3rd bow in the roof and it extends into the trunk. The other peice is a cap that fits over the rear window section and is the main part of the roof and the 2 sidepanels.

When the roof folds springs pull rear window back and down flat while the rest of the roof folds on top of it. If the springs have slipped off, or anything stops the movement of the glass it will break. Anything over the rear axle is probably going to break the glass.

Since the part of the roof that has the rear window fits under the main part of the roof I think it's a fairly difficult job. But, I'm not sure of that. If you do decide to tackle the job I'd love to see some pictures of the process.

We are lucky that there is useful trunk space left when the roof is folded. My wife and I packed enough for a 2 week vacation and were still able to put the roof down. When the roof is fixed a quick peak in the trunk when the roof is folded will show you where you can put things and where you can't.

Good Luck,
John
