Ok Guys, I am a bit panicked right now. How big are these things? Bumper to bumper is what, 18ft 8in?? Is that right? It might be time to look for a rental garage. I've got a 2 1/2 car garage, but I don't think it's long enough!! :Dou: This not something I expected. Again, live and learn Steve...
I didn't tell you all that I bought this ride (72 Convertible) as a surprise for my family! We'll the thing hasn't even arrived yet, and boy oh boy is it starting to be a surprise!
Good night boys.......

Steve, the '71 Centurions are about 18-ft. 4-in. long, and '72's are probably a tad longer due to the front bumper changes.

Each of the 72 Centurion models is 221.9 inches in length.

Thanks for the info gents.... However, now I have to find a garage big enough to hold this beast. Man, I won't even get this car till tomorrow or Wednesday and have learned more from you all than I thought possible. I hope I stay madly in love with it when I actually get to touch and drive it!
Do you all store your cars at home or offsite? I have to measure my garages again, but I don't think their 19' long. My wife is going to beat me senseless! :o
Thanks again,
Steve

Hey Steve you can always keep it at my place:Brow:
I keep my Centurion inside a round car tent 20'x10" I have the room to build a garage but my taxes would go threw the roof. Anyway during winter storage I keep it sealed up in a car bag (keeps all the mice and moisture out) Unfortunately for me my wife took one bay of the garage for her ....ugh mini van:laugh: the other bay houses my GS.
Steve when you measure it up and if it barely fits MAKE SURE the lower inside garage door handle is removed otherwise it may hit the bumper and scratch it all up. I removed them with my doors.
Oh have to tell you though I didn't do it for my wife's bay and would you have known, she left the lift gate in her mini van partly up and the lower inside handle did a nice number on the painted lift gate when she hit the garage door switch:Dou: Of course she got the last laugh as I had to pay for it.

Who would have thought? I tell ya, they want something like $150 per month for storage, so I am going to exhaust all possibilities FIRST! I don't have any garage door handles to worry about, so I am good there. However, I think my finished area inside measures something like 18ft, so the story of my life........ I am about 6 -7 inches short!!! :o
I even built a shed last fall to get some stuff out of the garage (anticipating buying a toy), never even thought I'd have to deal with a vehicle not fitting in the garage! How freaking clueless can I be!?!
BTW, nice offer Rick, but it might be a bit too far to keep it there!!
Thanks!

Steve,
perhaps is a solution for you what is shown in this picture ? ;)
The underline is :>>The end of the car, that is looking out of the garage, is made of weather proven stainless steel ! <<

Hey Rolf, that is way too funny.......... Man, I am really struggling with this! An extra $150 per month is not going to make my bride real happy. :spank:
Thanks!

Yes, Steve,
you are right and I know about your feeling because I had nearly the same problem. My garage was for my BMW, for our bikes and some furniture and tools for the garden. All this needs a new place or I had to find a great garage for the Centurion. First I felt sure that it would be not a problem to find one, but then I had the same problems you have now. Last I was forced to empty my garage and to let the BMW outside because I could not find a great garage or another place to stow the car in our town. During the days when I was searching for the garage one of our friends gave me the copy of this joke I placed here. - - Now I found your story and I thought I could give this joke to the next suffering man concerning this special problem ... .
Please excuse that I didnīt wait until you have a good solution for the problem. I hope that you will find one and I hope that it will cost not such an amount of money. On the other hand I`m often surprised about the great ideas and flexibility of the Americans and thatīs why I trust you to find a good posibility to stow your car soon.
All this can not delete my joke at the wrong time, so I only can hope that you will laugh about it once in future.
Perhaps itīs an idea to dismantle one or both bumpers from the car until you will have found a garage. I assume in the first weeks you will have to do some work at the car anyway. Another idea could be to look for a place in a garage for technical equipment of a farmer or the fire-brigate or ... (perhaps there are some other possibilities in your town). - May be this will help you only for some weeks but during this time you can search a better solution. Ask your friends and neighbours ... .
I wish you to have the right thoughts (and please forget the joke for some time). Again I hope you can excuse my mistake!
Best regads and special greetings from Germany
Rolf

Hello Rolf, I am still laughing at the joke. It was timely and I needed the laugh now!! Please do not worry yourself about it. I thought it was great! I guess I am stressing because the car arrives Thursday and I have no place to put it. However, I am narrowing it down and have asked several friends and neighbors for ideas. I must be careful though, as this car is a surprise to my family. They do not know that I bought the car, so this is a HUGE surprise to them! My wife will either be thrilled or upset, I don't know which yet. However, I feel she'll be happy with one exception. Paying to park the car at an offsite garage. The prices are pretty high per month!
I wish I had thought of this when I bought this ride, though I don't think it would have mattered one bit. I still would have bought it.
I appreciate your humor and the cartoon was great!
Thank you again for taking the time to talk and if you ever make it to the East Coast of the States, look me up. The drinks are on me!!! :beers:
Talk to you soon,
Steve

Steve
Have to tell you this is also what I did. Back in 2001 we moved to a larger house with a solid acre of land nicely set with woods all around. Anyway we saw the house "I saw the nice oversized (wide) two car HEATED garage. Well my wife loved the rest of the house so the boss (the wife) said we go for it.
Immediately moving in I grabbed my racecar '70 GS out of a storage garage and promptly parked it in the 20 foot deep outside bay. The inside bay in went my wife's Windstar Van. And would have you known the van was too long:Dou: . Turned out when the previous owners finished the 900 square foot basement they robbed a few feet from the garage to build a staircase so the inside bay was only 14 or so feet deep! What to do....hmmm. Told my wife I'll just have to add on. So I immediately started a footing by digging up part of the driveway, the part that blocks in my GS:laugh: and then winter came. Oh well the GS is now trapped inside cause of the dug up section:Brow: I guess the van stays outside this winter:laugh: Now that wasn't planned...yeah right.
In the Spring I finished the small addition. Only came out 3 feet with a slight pitched roof. It actually came out real nice, did it with a friends help all to code, and it wasn't that expensive, actually is was cheaper than doing a large deck. So now my bay is about 23 feet deep and the wife's lushious mini van:tonge2: fits in the inside her bay. We thought of extending enough to make the garage a 4 car garage (2 deep on each side), but I know the good old tax man would have had me bending over real good for that addition. Plus I would have had to hire someone to do it $$$$$. So we past on that idea.
Looking back had I known this most likely we would have kept looking at houses, but its done and over now. Oh and the Centurion can even fit inside if needed. I keep the Centurion inside a cover round tent garage.

Let the wife park the car, when she drives through the garage, call the insurance company and have them repair the garage,
with a few improvements.

Now that is too funny. And you don't even know that I am an Insurance Agent!! :D She still hasn't seen it. Weather has sucked. I am waiting for a nice sunny day to put the top down and drive it home.........
Thanks,

Steve, I don't know if this is an option for you, as I had the same problem when I bought my first house and of course, forgot to measure. The only way I could get my 72 in the garage was to back it in on an angle taking up both parking spaces. You may be thinking, hey that might work:xyxthumbs: However, if your wife is currently using the other space, she might look like this:rant:
