Anyone tackle the rear cv joint?
I notice the three parts are available, about $60 each for a total of $180,OUCH!
I still have a small amount of driveline vibration, coming with each wheel revolution.
I obviously will change the front u joint first, but just looking for some suggesytions.
Do certain parts of the rear cv joint wear, without having to replace all three pieces?
Thanks.

I did not done that myself
Is it possible that your bearings might be worn out
You can replace the universal joint's complete with needle bearings for $10 - $15 a piece (at rockauto.com)
The yokes themselves do not need be replaced
You can check witch one you need by moving the joint in all directions any binding is not acceptable (see link) http://www.power-21.com/federalmogulpower21i/Docs/2404.pdf

Nice little expenditure,don't you think?

Like i said why do you need to replace them
Normally only the baering wear out and they are cheaper to replace

Just getting a weird vibration is all.
After nearly 40 years,I have to believe some parts are better to replace before they break somewhere on the road.
Hopefully replacing the front joint helps, but while the shaft is out, might as well do the job once.

Sure you can change them if it makes you feel better it won't be worse then what you have now
But if there is play in the bearings you can get the same vibration that is why i suggested to check the articulation of the joints
The yokes with normal use will last forever
The difference is $45 for the U-joints (3x) or the yokes (3x) $180 + U-joints (3x) $45 = $225
On the other hand this might be a good opportunity to powder coat and re-balance the prop shaft as well
that is what i am gonna do when the time is come for me to tackle the drive train from the transmission to the differential
Did the engine and transmission this winter
So do what your wallet will allow you to do
To keep the car on the road for an other forty years :xyxthumbs:
