Guys, as many of you know, I need a battery tray. A buddy on this site found this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-69-70-71-1972-Skylark-Special-GS-Battery-Tray_W0QQitemZ360090982403QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotor s_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item36009098240 3&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A1171%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A131 8

I question if this will work for our cars. ( I hope someone doesn't sneak in and grab this from me! :Dou:)

Thanks fella's.

Hi Steve
I was under the impression that you only needed the hold down clip
this part is also available at Classic Buick parts
http://www.classicbuicks.com/electric.htm
category "E" cost $5,-
As for your question i am not sure (from memory) i thought that our battery tray is hold down by two bolts the one your buddy found has three bolt holes
Again i am not sure
If i not forget i will take a look tomorrow

Hi,

That looks like the right tray.

Just be sure that the metal is well painted on the tray itself and on the fender under the tray. Moisture can get trapped in the troughs in the tray and rust will begin in the smallest nick.

I changed over to an Optima Battery with an Aluminum tray. I think they survive the winter storage better than regular batteries. I had a trickle charger die mid winter and the battery got very drained. I was able to recharge it and it works fine. I think a regular battery would've buckled a plate and died in the same circumstances.

The thin red and black wires are for the trickle charger.

Thanks fella's.

No problem, Steve, there are several of them on Ebay :

Good luck !

OK Steve
I have checked the battery tray on my '73 and that is a four bolt tray with two drain holes and a large hole for the bumper bolt and looks nothing like the ones in the ad on Ebay
I guess that they differ in '72 and '73
Sorry i cant help

Thanks Erik, Rolf and John... I guess I better make sure it states our model cars to ensure I get the right one. Erik, I need the entire tray, not just the clip. I'll keep looking. Thanks fella's.

Do you still need a tray? I'm going to the bone yard in Phoenix at the end of the week. I can pick one up if you want.

I blew it WDR - Wasn't able to get on here last week. I am sure I missed an opportunity here. But for the record, I do need a battery tray if you or anyone else stumbles across one!
Thanks for thinking of me and sorry for the late answer...

I've got to go into Phoenix again the end of the week. I'll see if they have a nice one.

Was looking through BC parts ads on Ebay this morning and suddenly saw this here - remembering that you once searched such a tray, Steve, I posted it here :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/72-Buick-Electra-LeSabre-Centurion-used-battery-tray-/290644483573?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessorie s&vxp=mtr&hash=item43abc2ddf5

Guess you will have found one in the long time since your last post regarding this part, but in case you are still in search for here it is !

BTW : Long time ago that you came across here; everything okay ? Hope your big black beauty still is your hair-through-the-wind-rusher ;o) !
Anyway, wish you all the best and a nice winter without mice in the Buick !
