Hi Peter
I had a similar problem but it looks that you covered all the point i have checked
I replaced the spark plug wires and yes two of them where reversed (No 6 and 8)
Did causes the back firing when you slowly accelerate furthermore the screws of the top of the carburetor worked them self loose causing vacuum leak's
After replacing the wires and tightening the screws it was much better
Now it is not perfect yet but that is due fine tuning the carburetor and i am still working on that to get more km out of a liter petrol (doing 1 on 2,8 at the moment)
Hope you find the fault in your system
Here is a link to the manual of the Qjet if you like

OK, I found out something:
I blew my intake gasket where the heat riser is located.
So I have to pull the intake manifold again.
I will go with a oil shield and compsition gaskets. I hate the orig. style gasket.
And I thought that having the intake off is the perfect chance to install a nice cam.
I called Greg Gessler. After talking a few minutes I know what Iīm going to order:
- 0.30 composition gaskets
- oil shield
- air hole plugs (smog holes in the heads)
- oil pump booster plate
- roller timing chain set
- stage 1 fuel pump
- edelbrock calibration kit
- TA C110 cam
- Lifters
- some other small stuff like spark plug wire looms .......
So I can also replace the front crank seal and other stuff that I wouldnīt do if itīs not apart this far.
Tell me what you think. Anything else I should order?
What to you think about the cam?

Timing cover gasket kit
Oil pump shim kit
You could easily go to a TA 212 cam with no other modifications.
What is an "Edelbrock calibration kit?"

Adam,
Of course I will buy a gasket set for the timing cover and a neoprene front crank seal.
What do I need the oil pump shim kit for?
Greg told me that the TA C110 is the "biggest cam" I can run with stock valve springs and without a converter. Further my engine has no increased compression ratio.
Do you think that will make no problems?
Thatīs the link to the calibration kit. I thought thatīs a good idea to order.
So I have some jets, rods, hangers and power piston springs to find out which works best. Or can you tell from experiance on your car what I will need with which cam?

The C110 and the 212 are very close in performance, but the C110 will give a little bit more "lump" at idle. I see that they recommend Stage1 valve springs with that cam. I guess you could get away with stock springs.

The C110 gives more lump at idle? Ok, thatīs the cam I want ;)
