I'm replacing both doors on my 73 Centurion convert. Mine are electric windows, and the donor car is manual... so I've got to swap the guts. As I'm going to have to remove the doors from both cars anyway, can anyone suggest the best solution for removing the regulators.
In other words, is it easier to remove the regulators and install them while the doors are still hanging on each car, or is it easier to work from a bench?
Any other suggestions/hints/tutorials you may have for this task would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hello,
It's best to begin with the donor door. Lower the glass halfway and support it. Unbolt the glass from the regulator. Remove the glass and then remove the regulator. If you're thinking of replacing the door gasket now is the time to do it. You might want to make sure the existing gasket is in its proper place.
It is easier to remove the power window guts while it's on the car. For 1 reason, you need to raise and lower the window a bit to get at the fasteners that hold it in place.
I suggest you mark the location of each bolt on the door. Many affect the alignment of the window and you want to get the alignment back to original. Transfer these markings to the donor door.
Lower the power window about half way and support the glass. There are 3 bolts that hold the glass to the regulator. Mark the location of each bolt before you remove it.
You can then remove the glass through the top of the door. Set it aside in a safe place. You'll need to remove 3 brackets from the top of the door to slide the glass out. All 3 brackets affect the alignment so mark their bolts before you remove them.
Unclip the wire to the window motor at the very bottom of the door. Unbolt the regulator and wrestle it out.
Remove the old door and install the new. It will weigh less without the window and regulator but it's still a heavy bastard. Now is a good time to align the door in it's opening so it opens and closes easily.
Reinstall the power window regulator and connect the wiring. Slip the glass in and reattach it. Reinstall the 3 brackets at the top of the door. Re set everything to your transferred marks for alignment. Close the door and slowly raise the window checking for alignment.
