Hi,
I must buy a fuel tank for my centurion '72.
I see some shops and also e-bay where can I buy it, but the shipment (because of the large size) is very expensive (example $450 from RockAuto)

the fuel tank could be: spectra premium code GM61A.

I find it in Europe? ...or other recommendations for the purchase?

thank's!

To my knowledge such a part would be hard to find in Europe, at least as new

Regarding overseas shipping, I paid 150 dollars for one cubic metre in a sea container which is the standard price here. Local customs fee and tax are added to that :tonge2:.
Its pretty slow, can take a few months since they want a full container before sending it over.

Maybe you could find such a shipping company in your neighbourhood?
Austrian (Peter) might have some good connections, he’s not that far from you ;)

Good luck!

Stefano, I would try to safe money and do it that way:
http://translate.google.de/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.restaurieren.eu%2Ftan k-entrosten-versiegeln%2Findex.html&sl=de&tl=it&hl=de&ie=UTF-8

This is a German site translated to Italian by Google; I hope you will be able to understand, on the other hand you might find such an info in Italy too.

Guess that it would be possible with your old tank and it would cost much less than a new one. If you don´t want to do it yourself there are some specialists also who could do it for you and guess that also these costs would be much lower than buying a new tank.

Anyway - good luck with that project !

STE

I have a 72 Centurion 2 door hardtop I'm parting out.. no rust. The fuel tank is in good shape. I know shipping would be expensive, but I would sell you the tank for $100.00 US plus shipping.

See my post at this forum...

whats the problem with your old fuel tank? Is it leaking, dents or rusty?
Maybe it can be repaired.
I also had troubles with the tank of my 57 Bel Air. If you want I can send you some pics how it looks now.

my fuel tank have many small-micro holes under the rust.
not below, but on the side

in Italy there is a product (TANKERITE) ( http://www.tankerite.com/prodotti/il-ciclo-anticorrosivo-permanente-tankerite.html )
for waterproofing the interior, but the tank is big and I think with bulkheads/divisions inside, and I do not know if is simple with this product...

Looks similar to the tank of my chevy before restoring.
I had the tank sandblasted, chemicaly striped, and cleaned.
All the acids will also remove all the rust from inside and outside.
After that I had the tank industrial zinc plated. The zinc coating is about 0.5 mm thick on every side. I just had to recut all threads, but the centurion tank has no thread if I remember correct.
I´m at work at the moment ;-) but when I´m home I will post you a pic of my Bel Air´s tank.

Ste,

I agree with Peter. I would be glad to sell you my tank, as it is in great shape. However, I have done some preliminary checking, and shipping is VERY expensive! If you can have it repaired like Peter's, it will likely be much less expensive for you to do that rather than have one shipped from the states.

Well, I found a person who repaired the tank, (is repairer of radiators..and tank)

sandblasted all, and tinned where there were holes and weaknesses.
and verified with air in pressure!

Now painting with Ferox and black paint final.

:) :) :)
